The Marco Polo sheep ranges from the extreme northwestern corner of Pakistan, through the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan, across the eastern Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan and extreme western Kunlun Mountains of China, up through eastern Kyrgyzstan, as far as the Naryn River. It is most numerous in Tajikistan, which can be described as the epicenter of the range of this species. Today the Marco Polo sheep can be hunted in Tajikistan and in Kyrgyzstan.
